LAHORE: Punjab Prosecutor General (PG) Syed Farhad Ali Shah on 4th November took notice of two recent incidents – the rape of a minor girl at a private school and burning of a juvenile labourer at a workshop – in the provincial metropolis.

On being summoned, the investigating officers (IOs) in both cases appeared before the prosecutor, with their reports on the incidents.

In the minor’s rape case, the IO stated that the suspect was in the custody of Faisal Town police on a five-day physical remand.

The PG expressed concern over the delay in verification of the victim’s age and recording her statement under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

He instructed the IO to ensure collection of cogent evidence and record the statement of the victim via video link as per the Anti-Rape Act 2021 and Anti-Rape Rules 2023.

Additionally, the PG approved a DNA test, potency test and polygraph test of the suspect.

Mr Shah further instructed the district public prosecutor to maintain the victim’s family’s dignity and privacy while pursuing the case.

During the briefing, the IO of the minor labourer’s case told the PG that one of the suspects had been apprehended and was currently under investigation.

Asked about the delay in recording the victim’s statement, the IO explained that a request was submitted to the doctor to record the statement, but it had not yet been done. At this, the PG ordered the Punjab Medical Legal Surgeon to initiate departmental action against the responsible doctor.
