PR Police Rescue, Reunite 626 Children, Women With Families

LAHORE: Pakistan Railways Police rescued and reunited around 626 children and women with their heirs in the last eight months over the period of 1st Jan to 31st Aug 2024.

Around 2,000 lost luggage of passengers valued at Rs19.2m were retrieved and returned safely to the passengers. Additionally, around 13,360 handicapped, injured, and elderly passengers were provided with first aid, wheelchair, and stretcher facility. According to the figures, Rawalpindi division reunited over 146, Lahore 149, Karachi 128, Sukkur 67, Peshawar 66, Multan 57, and Quetta division 13 abandoned/runaway children to their parents and some were handed over to the welfare institutions like Edhi. Most of the children were found unaccompanied and loitering at railway stations after they left their house following a fight or getting scolded or in search of glamour or a better life.

Similarly, Rawalpindi division assisted 2,906 passengers and retrieved luggage worth Rs4.3m, Lahore assisted 2,315 with retrieval of luggage worth Rs5m, Karachi assisted 6,030 with retrieval of luggage worth Rs5.45m, Peshawar 973 with Rs1.29m, Sukkur 386 with Rs1.24m, Multan 421 with Rs0.63m, and Quetta assisted 330 passengers and returned luggage worth Rs1m, respectively. The valuables that were returned included laptops, smartphones, gold and artificial jewellery, ladies and gents handbags and purse, and national/international currencies.
