Police doubt suicide claim by family

KARACHI:

A 12-year-old girl was found dead hanging from a duppata at the home of her paternal uncle in Surjani Town. According to rescue officials, the deceased has been identified as Mehak Dastgir. The body has been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem and legal action. Surjani Town police station SHO Muhammad Ali Shah said that evidence has been collected from the scene. Though the child’s family says she committed suicide for unknown reasons, police will investigate the matter thoroughly. Investigation is being carried out from all aspects of the incident and the real cause of death will be revealed only after the post-mortem report.The deceased’s father Ghulam Dastgir told the media at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital that he had left Mehak with his elder brother. On the afternoon of May 21, his brother called him to inform him that Mehak had passed away.
