SWABI: The alleged abduction of two teenage sisters sparked protest in Yar Hussain village of Razaar tehsil here on Sep 20.
Protesting people said that the two girls were on their way to a local religious seminary when they were allegedly kidnapped by unidentified persons.
The news spread rapidly in the region and went viral on social media. Announcements were made on loudspeakers while calling on the people to reach for protest. The locals angered by reports of the alleged abduction of two girls from the Maskinabad neighbourhood of Yar Hussain in broad daylight blocked the Yar Hussain Road in protest.
It has been learnt that father of the girls, Ishtiaq Ahmad, was against staging a protest but some youngsters moved to Yar Hussain Road and blocked the road, while the victims’ family members were forced to join the protest.
“The victims’ family tried to keep the incident secret while making efforts to trace the two sisters,” a relative of the family told Dawn. Police officials assured the family that the abducted girls would be recovered within 24 hours.
The locals have appealed to DPO Waqas Rafiq and deputy commissioner Dr Tariqullah to take urgent steps to trace the girls.
They said that if progress was not made within 24 hours, they will be forced to close the area road for indefinite period.
DPO Waqas Rafiq said that they were striving to trace the girls.
The abducted girls were identified as Alisha, 16, Faiza, 15.
