Couple gets 34 Years Jail for Killing Newborn

TAXILA: A court in Taxila on January 29 sentenced two persons involved in the murder of a newborn baby girl to a combined 34 years of imprisonment along with fines amounting to Rs80,000.

According to the verdict, the prime accused Zulfiqar was awarded 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for murder, five years’ and a fine of Rs10,000 under Section 496-B, and two years’ imprisonment with a fine of Rs30,000 under Sections 109 and 329 of the PPC.

Similarly, the co-accused Areeba was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for murder, five years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs10,000 under Section 496-B, and two years’ imprisonment with a fine of Rs30,000 under Section 329.

The prosecution stated that the convicts had thrown the newborn baby into a vacant plot immediately after her birth.

The infant was later found by police in a critically injured condition and shifted to hospital for medical treatment where she died.

The case was registered in February 2023 at Saddar Wah Police Station.
