A three-year-old child kidnapped from Karachi was safely recovered from Moro in interior Sindh, while two suspects had been arrested, SSP Malir Abdul Khaliq Pirzada said during a press conference on December 17.
According to the SSP, the child, identified as Zain, was abducted from outside his house in Shah Latif Town while he was playing. The kidnappers later demanded a ransom of Rs20 million for his release.
SSP Pirzada said a joint operation was carried out by the Malir police and the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), with assistance from the Anti-Vehicle Crime Cell (AVCC) and the Naushahro Feroze police, which led to the child’s safe recovery from a house in Moro, district Naushahro Feroze.
He added that ransom calls were being made from two different phone numbers, which were repeatedly changed to avoid detection. During the operation, the suspects, Asif Raien and Mehtab, were arrested. The SSP further stated that both suspects were friends and were known to the child’s father prior to the kidnapping.
A police team was formed under the supervision of the DSP and SHO of Shah Latif police station to recover the child. Investigations were underway to determine how the suspects managed to take the child nearly 400 kilometres away from Karachi, while efforts were also ongoing to arrest any remaining accomplices. Police said further investigation was in progress.
