TANK: Unidentified armed men kidnapped three officials working for the anti-polio programme from the Umarkot area in the limits of Malazai Police Station in the Tank district on September 15.

According to police, the team had been visiting the area to monitor the ongoing anti-polio campaign when they were kidnapped. The abductees were identified as District Surveillance Officer Dr Ihsanullah, Union Council Communication Support Officer Hikmatullah, and Union Council Polio Officer Abdullah.

District Police Officer of Tank Shabbir Hussain Shah told reporters that the officials were taken away by unidentified gunmen from the Umarkot area in the limits of Malazai Police Station and shifted to an undisclosed location.

He said a heavy police contingent cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the abductees and arrest the culprits. However, no clue about the whereabouts of the kidnapped officials could be found.

Local elders expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order in the district, noting that incidents of kidnapping and robbery had become an order of the day in Tank city and its adjoining areas.
