Police say she intended to extort Rs1.5m from her husband

Police have arrested a woman who falsely claimed her nine-month-old child had been kidnapped for a ransom of Rs1.5 million in an attempt to deceive her husband.
According to police officials, an emergency call was made to the police from a woman named Soofia, a resident of Hazara Colony, claiming that her nine-month-old child had been kidnapped for a ransom of Rs1.5 million.
CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani immediately notified the police of the incident. SHO Rata Amral police station Muhammad Sajjad, along with police investigators, IT experts, and other officials, arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. However, Soofia’s statements contained inconsistencies. When questioned, Soofia claimed that she was at a friend’s house when the child was kidnapped.
The police teams expanded their search area while the father and relatives also joined the search, upon which Soofia suddenly confessed that she had made a bogus call to the police emergency number to extort Rs1.5 million from her husband.
The police immediately arrested Soofia and seized her mobile phone. The child was found safe at home and was handed over to the father.
According to police, the infant’s father works as a labourer, while his wife manages saving committees. Officials stated that the police emergency number is meant for the convenience of citizens, and any misuse of the service will result in legal action
