GUJRAT: Authorities concerned on January 13 launched an anti-beggary campaign, rescuing around a dozen children from begging networks in various parts of the city.
On the directions of Gujrat DC Noorul Ain Qureshi, the operation was launched jointly by the teams of the Child Protection Bureau, Gujranwala, Labour Department, Rescue 1122, Gujrat police and the Social Welfare Department.
During the drive, the officials identified and rescued 11 children being used for beggary at Hassan Chowk, Machhli Chowk, Nishan-i-Haider Chowk and Gulzar-e-Madina Chowk.
The rescued children were shifted to Gujranwala for further legal proceedings, rehabilitation and welfare measures, in accordance with the law.
A spokesman for Gujrat district administration says the Punjab government is committed to protect children from exploitation and ensure their rehabilitation through coordinated efforts by all relevant departments.
He adds that the drive will continue in the district to discourage child beggary in the region and such actions will also be taken in other urban areas of the district.
