CM Sindh opens training centre for differently-abled persons

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated on Tuesday the Vocational Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities, Ancholi, in a simple ceremony organised at CM House on 4th June 2024.

The chief minister got the plaque unveiled by Ali Ansar, who is a differently-abled person.

The ceremony was attended by officials and heads of different non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working for welfare of differently-abled persons. The chief minister was informed that 240 people with disabilities, including 120 girls had been enrolled at the centre and they were being imparted with vocational training.

Of 240 students, 60 have been enrolled in computer science, 72 in tailoring, 48 in beautification and 60 in mobile repair.

The chief minister directed the secretary of the department of empowerment of persons with disabilities (DEPD) to run the centre effectively and he would provide more facilities and equipment if needed.

Distributes cheques among NGOs Also on Tuesday, Mr Shah distributed cheques of Rs71.252 million among the NGOs working for differently-abled persons to procure assistive devices for them.

The cheque distribution ceremony was held at CM House and attended by officials, heads of NGOs and rehabilitation centres.

The CM said that his government had established rehabilitation centres for persons with disabilities all over the province to help parents enrol their differently-abled children to make them effective persons of society.

The NGOs given the cheques include Ida Rieu Welfare Association, Rs29.135 million; JS Academy of Noor-e-Ali Trust, Rs10m; Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre, Rs11.446m; Autism Care & Rehabilitation Organisation, Rs1.557m; Pakistan Association of Blind National, Rs9.430m; Special Children School Karsaz of Pak Navy, Rs4.178m; Imran Rehabilitation Centre (Shareef Haroon Trust), Rs3.5m; NGO for Development of Special Persons, Rs586,000; and Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Council, Rs1.425m.

Secretary to CM Raheem Shaikh, DEPD Secretary Tauha Faroogi and others were also present.
